The last leg of our Beijing visit had almost come to an end. In the evening we went to an Indian Hotel called Raj restaurant.
The dinner time in Beijing is 5 pm to 6 pm as told by our guide. And after that they will end up in the bed by 9pm.She always used to say unlike you as you start at 9pm. Unless you have fixed the hotel you wont get any thing to eat.We could manage a nice array of vegetarian dishes.And then we reached our hotel to prepare for the next days journey. Beijing was nice. Huge buildings wide wide roads orderly traffic and very clean.We dont know how it would be in suburbs as we were always on main roads and near tourist places.Because the city is so huge it would take time to commute from place to place.The city is supposed to have 20million population and 40 million cars.All types of cars Rolls Bentley, Mercs Maseratis BMws were every where.The tourist places were very clean and tidy.The only problem was the pollution.some times the haze is so much visibility is reduced.those who are not used to this pollution get whats is called Beijing Nose and Beijing cough. fortunately we were immune to such things as we face similar or more of it.
Beijing means northern capital as opposed to Nanjing southern capital. It is a very old city and more than 300 years. The historical Homoerectus of 230000 to 300000 years The Peking man was found here and we became a part of that history.
And we went to bed early as we had to take 7.00 am bullet train.We had complementary breakfast at 5.30 andreached the railway station a very short distance. Our guide brought the tickets and put us in the right place. The Beijing South station was almost like an airport.We got in to the train on time. Our guide had a generous tips and was very happy so also us.On the dot at 7.00 the train started moving.We had no problem as we knew the train in the form of TGV in France.But this train goes faster at 304kms/hour.In 3 mts it was cruising at 280 kms.The train was from Beijing to Shanghai a distance of 1700 kms.But we hadto get down at a place called Shuzan Bei just 70 kms from Shanghai.The tarin stos for only 3 mts enough.That station was another marvel. A small city where 36 lines were catering to trains. So huge.It took for thsi train exactly 5hrs and 20 mts to reach here from Beijing.
Another guide had come to station to take care of us from then on.We had time till evening in Shouzan Bei.We had planned to visit a couple park the bund and the canal boat ride.
